SAL's book, published in 2004, about the artistic history and significance of the Housatonic River is still available.

ART AND THE RIVER:
VIEWS AND VISIONS OF THE HOUSATONIC

Art and the River promotes a renewed vision of the Housatonic River as an inspiring natural resource that has shaped the Berkshires. At the same time, the book establishes the river as an artistic and literary inspiration of national significance.

A series of four-color historic and contemporary paintings as well as black-and-white artistic renderings and photographs of the Housatonic River illustrate the book. The main text consists of essays by Housatonic River conservators and by contemporary and historic art specialists. Click the cover image to the right to see an enlarged view.
